Wedding Wednesday | Elise Richard | A Baton Rouge Wedding

Elise and Christian exchanged vows and said “I do” at Our Lady of Mercy last December. Their traditional Catholic ceremony was followed by a beautiful reception at the Baton Rouge Country Club. Collin Richie did an incredible job of capturing the details of this glorious day!

The Proposal:

How did you meet?

We first met at a track meet our Senior year of High School. We got set up for prom by mutual friends — So my Senior prom was our first date! We went our separate ways when he went to college out of state and I stayed at LSU. We reconnected when he became roommates with one of my good guy friends from high school when we were Juniors in college. We became close friends for about a year, and after he pursued me for several months (hehe:)), we shared our first kiss at the Old Governors Mansion for an even the took me ti right before Thanksgiving. We immediately fell in love and he asked me to marry him two years later!

The Proposal

On Christmas Eve, 2018, he told me to get ready for a family brunch, and that we would go to his parents’ house to meet up with everyone first. His parents live on beautiful property in Prairieville, Louisiana, and we would often take walks around the pond and to a sentimental live oak that they called “The Owen Oak”, after his mother’s family name. He secretly made me a playlist of all our favorite songs to listen to on the ride to his parents’ house, which I assumed was a coincidence. When we got to his parents’ house, he suggested we go on a walk. We stopped right under the Owen Oak and he told me how much he loved me and that he didn’t get me much for Christmas this year, but had one more gift he wanted to give me early. He got down on one knee and said “Elise Frances Richard, will you marry me?” with his Great Grandmother’s beautiful engagement ring. I couldn’t believe it, and all that I could say was “Are you serious?!” After about a minute of being dumbfounded, I finally said yea and we celebrated the whole day with Verve Clicot with both of our families!

It’s All in the Details:

What made you choose where you got married?

Our Lady of Mercy is the church I grew up in and it is very dear to my heart. Christian became Catholic during our engagement and we often went to OLOM for Sunday mass.

What were your special details or parts of the wedding that were specific to you?

We had a traditional Catholic wedding. We incorporated the Medgugorji Marriage Prayer before saying our vows that emphasized the Crucifix as a symbol of our faith and our love for each other and for God.

The Attire:

Elise wore a stunning gown by Augusta Jones from Wedding Belles in New Orleans. She accessorized with some very sentimental items. Elise’s veil and garter were handmade by the Groom’s Grandmother and her earrings were borrowed from the Mother of the Groom.

Advice for Future Brides:

Have fun!!! Try your best to take in every moment, and embrace everything that happens the day, whether it be perfect, or unexpected!
