Wedding Wednesday | Katie M. | Winter Wedding

We were so happy to be a part of Katie and Daniel’s wedding this past December at a private residence in Prairieville, LA. As you can tell, it was a chilly day, but Katie was as beautiful as ever and Ashleigh Jayne Photography captured it all perfectly!

The Proposal:

How did you meet?

We met in high school! We first became friends working on a group project for an English class. (We had to come up with a rap song about a Greek tragedy, how could you not see this ending in marriage?). We started dating the following year.

The Proposal

He had the ring for ~2 months and just asked spontaneously in my kitchen the evening I was accepted into veterinary school. He was sweaty and in gym clothes so I actually made him redo the proposal after a shower! It was simple and unplanned, but that’s very fitting of us!

Wedding Prep:

Katie and her bridal party was a festive group while preparing for the big day at the private residence where the wedding was to be held. They all wore red and green sweaters for wedding prep. Katie wanted to make sure her ladies were nice and warm on this chilly day so she gifted them warm fuzzy socks, mugs and pashmina scarves.

Tina with Verde Beauty Studio gave Katie a beautiful look with her long curls with a floral accent and natural looking makeup.

The Details:

What made you choose where you got married?

I always loved the idea of a backyard wedding. My parents resisted at first, but we decided in September to move the wedding up to December 2018 rather than 2019 so limited options worked in my favor!

What were your special details or parts of the wedding that were specific to you?

Having it in the home I grew up in, our daughter being our flower girl, I love Christmas and opted to have guests sign ornaments so I will see them each year rather than a book in a closet

What did you choose to do as your favors?

N/a (they got a bar and amazing food though)

Did you incorporate any wedding traditions from you or your partners families?

Quite the opposite, after the fact I realized there wasn’t  even something blue or borrowed! My dress was new to me... but from 2015, and we had a first look- if you’re going to miss tradition might as well miss them all!

The Attire:

Katie’s beautiful wedding gown was a Cynthia by WTOO/Waters 2015 that she purchases from Bridal Boutique in Baton Rouge, LA. Katie accessorized her gown with a veil from David’s Bridal, a pearl bracelet from Daniel and a necklace from her sister.

Daniel and his groomsmen wore suits from Black by Vera Wang that were rented from Men’s Wearhouse.

Advice for Future Brides:

What is one thing you wish you would have known pre-wedding?

To make rough picture list! And to have had someone tell guests to take pictures together while we were signing documents/eating! (Photographer was amazing, just on us!) and to bring a hanger for your wedding dress when you leave haha- oops

Did you rock a #hashtag?

Somewhat used #merrymyers but didn’t tell people to post to it

Words of Advice for future brides?

It’s not about the wedding, it’s about the marriage!

I was an hour late for prep and Tina still had me ready to go in time for a first look- experienced vendors can save the day! When budgeting consider your weakness too and what you may need stronger help in- having someone who can save the day may be more important than an extra tier on your cake ;)

Even if you can’t afford a full blown honeymoon, do something to get away together! We weren’t planning to and my siblings merged and paid for us to spend 3 days in Gulf Shores and that was the best thing. It pulled me away from moving/unpacking and allowed us to really just enjoy each other’s company for a few days!

So many other things, no matter how much advice you’re given, your experience will be different and you’re going to have an “I wish I thought of that” moment.
